"A very vocal bird particulary first thing in the morning..."

True to the above statement, this picture was taken on an early Friday morning. I was in my study room when I heard a familiar song. Peering out of my window, I saw this brightly yellow bird perched on the branches of i-don't-know-what tree in the carpark. I knew it had to be the oriole, for I had hear it sing on many occasions.

Not only do they love to make their presence known in the morning, I have heard them a couple of times mostly in the late morning and evening time.

Orioles are very common in Singapore and are usually found on tall trees where they feed on fruits, berries and insects. As one of the top 10 most common residential birds on this island, one could hear their melodious calls quite frequently along the streets (or at least in Hougang).

There was a period of time when I always encountered 3 orioles at Realty Park (between 7:15 - 7:30 a.m.). Lately though, I have not seen them when I walked past the houses. However, there was one late afternoon when 3 orioles flew above me when I was walking along the road somewhere outside Holy Innocents' Primary. I believed they are the ones I saw at Realty Park. Today at 10:49 a.m., I was attracted by a phrase of fluty notes outside my house. As I had suspected, I saw 2 orioles perched on the tree. To my delight, I spotted the third oriole when they decided to fly to another spot on the tree. I think I can kind of confirm they are the ones that I always bump into, haha. But I wonder if they are a family because the 3 of them always appear together. Hmmm...

They have also been sighted at Hougang Ave 10, opposite Sengkang Fire Station. I actually encountered it yesterday when I was at the vincinity. Although I did not spot the bird, I could recognise its familiar tune.

I had recorded the song of the resident but somehow youtube doesn't want to let me upload it. ARGH! I shall try to upload again and post it here soon.
